Title: |
Conference on File Systems and Storage Technologies |
Deadline: |
28-Jan-2002 |
Webpage: |
http://www.usenix.org/events/fast |
Conference: |
January 28-30, 2002 |
Synopsis: |
The FAST conference brings together the top storage systems researchers
and practitioners to explore the design, implementation, and uses of storage
systems. FAST will be the successor to IOPADS, which for several years
was the top conference dedicated to parallel and distributed I/O systems.
FAST will consist of 2.5 days of technical presentations, including refereed
papers, invited talks, and an introductory keynote address. Work-in-progress
presentations and informal Birds-of-a-Feather sessions will round out the
conference experience allowing attendees to meet respected colleagues and
provide valuable feedback. Register early and SAVE! FAST is sponsored by
USENIX, in cooperation with ACM/SIGOPS and IEEE TCOS. |
Semantics preservation between source and target program is the
commonly accepted minimum requirement to be ensured by compilers. The precise
meaning, however, is often only implicit. As a rule of thumb, verification
tends to interpret semantics preservation in a very tight sense, not only
but also to simplify the verification task. Optimization generally prefers
a more liberal view in order to enable more powerful transformations otherwise
excluded. |
Peer-to-peer has emerged as a promising new paradigm for distributed
computing. The 1st International Workshop on Peer-to-Peer Systems (IPTPS'02)
aims to provide a forum for researchers active in peer-to-peer computing
to discuss the state-of-the-art and to identify key research challenges
in peer-to-peer computing. The goal of the workshop is to examine peer-to-peer
technologies, applications and systems, and also to identify key research
issues and challenges that lie ahead. In the context of this workshop,
peer-to-peer systems are characterized as being decentralized, self-organizing
distributed systems, in which all or most communication is symmetric. |

Power-Aware Computer Systems Workshop |
Deadline: |
14-Dec-2001 |
Webpage: |
http://www.ece.cmu.edu/~pacs02 |
Conference: |
Held in conjunction with HPCA-8 |
Synopsis: |
Higher power and energy dissipation in recent years has led to an
increase in packaging cost and a decrease in product reliability in all
segments of computing market, and a significant reduction of battery life
in portable systems. The workshop on Power-Aware Computer Systems, will
bring together experts from key areas in computer system design, interested
in power-aware and low-power design and evlauation. |

SOSP 2003 Location Solicitation |
Summary: |
If you have a good idea for the location of SOSP 2003, please contact
David Kotz, SIGOPS chair. European locations might be nice. The more information
you can gather about the place, the better: what sort of conference facilities
exist? what are the housing options? what are the special features about
the site or the surroundings? who are the people who might put significant
effort to making SOSP a success at that location? how far is it from major
airports? We'll discuss a few locations at the SIGOPS business meeting
at SOSP2001. |
ABOUT SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE
The SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE mailing list is intended to provide a low-volume channel
that provides operating systems researchers and practitioners with information
about upcoming events or other important announcements. In general, a message
containing a group of such announcements will be sent about once per month
with the subject line "SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE monthly posting". On rare occasions,
announcements of particular interest or urgency will be sent out with a
different subject line, starting with "SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE supplemental posting"
(for readers who wish to use mail filtering programs.) Finally, this mailing
list is made available for use by publicity chairs of SIGOPS-sponsored
conferences and the SIGOPS officers.
