Title: | 12th Annual Multimedia Computing and Networking |
Abstract Deadline: | 07/05/2004 |
Submission Deadline: | 07/15/2004 |
Webpage: | http://mmcn05.cse.nd.edu/ |
Conference: | January 17-20, 2005 |
Location: | San Jose, CA, USA |
Synopsis: |
The objective of this conference is to bring together researchers and practitioners contributing to all facets of multimedia computing and networking. We especially encourage full and original papers on emerging technologies such as home networking and digital appliances, multimedia and QoS support for 3G and UWB networks, multimedia in P2P environments, power-aware computing and communications, mobile and fixed wireless multimedia networks and content distribution networks. An exclusive industrial track will feature industrial design experiences and showcase tools for next-generation multimedia systems and applications. Presenters will be encouraged to make multimedia presentations and demonstrate their solutions in person. |

Title: | 1st Workshop on Operating System and Architectural Support for the on demand IT InfraStructure |
Submission Deadline: | 08/07/2004 |
Webpage: | http://www.research.ibm.com/actc/OASIS-2004/ |
Conference: | October 9-13, 2004 |
Location: | Boston, MA, USA |
Synopsis: |
The demand on today's IT infrastructures is rapidly changing. Fueled by an ever-increasing data-centric society that desires information anywhere, anytime and anyhow, workloads have shifted from predominantly backdoor batch processing and static information serving to dynamic transactions and web services. Such changed workloads are often difficult to predict and hence require flexibility in the IT itself to be able to react on demand and improve operation. With the increased flexibility arises a new level of complexity that needs to be addressed. Furthermore, adequate support for this data-centric world is requiring the system infrastructure to provide high level of resilience and differentiated levels of robustness and availability for various kinds of IT services. This workshop focuses on operating system and architecture support to facility such on demand infrastructures. |
Title: | Third Workshop on Hot Topics in Networks (HotNets-III) |
Submission Deadline: | 08/10/2004 |
Webpage: | http://yuba.stanford.edu/HotNets-III/ |
Conference: | November 15-16, 2004 |
Location: | San Diego, CA, USA |
Synopsis: |
The Third Workshop on Hot Topics in Networks, HotNets-III, will bring together researchers in the networking and distributed systems community to debate emerging research directions. The goal of the workshop is to promote community-wide discussion of ideas that will influence and foster continued research in the field. The workshop will provide a venue for researchers to present new ideas that have the potential to significantly impact the community in the long term, especially those that are architectural or design-oriented in nature. |
Title: | Second Symposium on Networked Systems Design and Implementation (NSDI '05) |
Abstract Deadline: | 10/08/2004 |
Submission Deadline: | 10/15/2004 |
Webpage: | http://www.usenix.org/events/nsdi05/ |
Conference: | May 2-4, 2005 |
Location: | Boston, MA, USA |
Synopsis: |
The NSDI conference focuses on the design principles of large-scale networks and distributed systems. Systems as diverse as Internet routing, peer-to-peer file sharing, sensor nets, scalable Web services, and distributed network measurement share a set of challenges. Progress in any of these areas requires an understanding of how researchers are addressing the challenges of large-scale systems in other contexts. Our goal is to bring together researchers from across the networking and systems community -- including computer networking, distributed systems, and operating systems -- to foster cross-disciplinary approaches and to address shared research challenges. |
Title: | ACM/SIGOPS Mark Weiser Award |
Summary: |
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
The Mark Weiser Award was created in 2001 by ACM SIGOPS, to be given to an individual who has demonstrated creativity and innovation in operating systems research. The recipient must have begun his or her career no earlier than 20 years prior to nomination. The award is named in honor of Mark Weiser, a computing visionary recognized for his research accomplishments during his career at Xerox PARC. ACM SIGOPS will present a $1000 prize to the recipient, in memory of Mark and his many contributions to SIGOPS and the operating systems community. The award will be given annually at SOSP and OSDI. The selection committee will choose the recipient based on: "contributions that are highly creative, innovative, and possibly high-risk, in keeping with the visionary spirit of Mark Weiser." Nominations are due September 1, 2004. Please see
