Synopsis:
The EuroSys Roger Needham PhD award is an annual prize awarded to a PhD student from a European University whose thesis is regarded to be an exceptional, innovative contribution to knowledge in the broad systems area. The award is presented at the EuroSys conference. Nominations for the 2013 award - for students who either have defended their PhD thesis after September 1, 2011, or not yet defended but concluded writing by the nomination deadline - are possible until November 5, 2012. Nominations can only be made by a student's PhD supervisor.

Synopsis:
The 4th Annual Non-Volatile Memories Workshop provides a unique showcase for outstanding research on solid state, non-volatile memories. It features a "vertically integrated" program that includes devices, data encoding, systems architecture, and applications related to these exciting memory technologies. Presentations may include new results or work published during the 18 months prior to the submission deadline. In lieu of printed proceedings, we will post the slides and extended abstracts of the presentations online. Presentation of new work at the workshop does not preclude future publication. The workshop will be held March 3-5th, 2013 at the University of California, San Diego.

While these approaches differ dramatically in implementation, they target similar benefits and often must tackle related challenges. VEE 2013 brings together researchers across the many applications of virtualization in today's systems. We invite original papers on topics relating to virtualization, especially those that will have broad appeal across these approaches.

ACM NOSSDAV 2013, co-located with MMSys in Oslo (Norway), will as previous years focus on both established and emerging research topics, high-risk high-return ideas and proposals, and future research directions in multimedia networking and systems. It has a single-track format that encourages active participation and discussions among academic and industry researchers. The workshop seeks papers in all areas of multimedia networking and systems. In particular, we are interested in papers that discuss system-level support for social media/networking, that focus on improving performance with multi-core and many-core processors, as well multimedia applications on mobile devices and/or in a cloud computing environment.

Call for multimedia datasets The Dataset track provides an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to make their work available and citable. MMSys encourages dataset sharing, and seeks contributions in all areas of multimedia. Authors publishing datasets will benefit by increasing the public awareness of their effort. Call for demos The Demo session is intended as an arena where researchers, either the traditional research community or industry, can display practical proof of their research ideas. Demos should be an implementation of a new system, or improvements of components within a known system, that is described in an accompanying demo paper.
