LATIN 2018

Title:The 13th Latin American Theoretical Informatics Symposium
Abstract Deadline:2017-10-10
Submission Deadline:2017-10-17
Dates:April, 16-19, 2018
Location:Buenos Aires, Argentina
LATIN is devoted to different areas in theoretical computer science including, but not limited to: algorithms (approximation, online, randomized, algorithmic game theory, etc.), analytic combinatorics and analysis of algorithms, automata theory and formal languages, coding theory and data compression, combinatorial algorithms, combinatorial optimization, combinatorics and graph theory, complexity theory, computational algebra, computational biology, computational geometry, computational number theory, cryptology, databases and information retrieval, data structures, formal methods and security, Internet and the web, parallel and distributed computing, pattern matching, programming language theory, and random structures.

ICPE 2018

Title:9th ACM/SPEC International Conference on Performance Engineering
Abstract Deadline:2017-10-16
Submission Deadline:2017-10-18
Dates:April, 9-13, 2018
Location:Berlin, Germany
The goal of the International Conference on Performance Engineering (ICPE) is to integrate theory and practice in the field of performance engineering by providing a forum for sharing ideas and experiences between industry and academia. Nowadays, complex systems of all types, like Web-based systems, data centers and cloud infrastructures, social networks, peer-to-peer, mobile and wireless systems, cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things, real-time and embedded systems, have increasingly distributed and dynamic system architectures that provide high flexibility, however, also increase the complexity of managing end-to-end application performance.

EuroSys 2018

Title:European Conference on Computer Systems (EuroSys) 2018
Abstract Deadline:2017-10-20
Submission Deadline:2017-10-27
Dates:Apr, 23-26, 2018
Location:Porto, Portugal
The European Conference on Computer Systems (EuroSys) is a premier international forum for presenting computer systems research, broadly construed. EuroSys 2018 seeks papers on all areas of computer systems research. We encourage papers that span different topics and communities. We also welcome experience papers that clearly articulate lessons learned and papers that refute prior published results. Papers will be judged on novelty, significance, correctness, and clarity. Preference will be given to papers with innovative ideas and new approaches over papers with incremental results on well-established problems.

Title:SOSP'17 Ada Diversity Workshop
Submission Deadline:2017-10-28
Dates:October 28-31, 2017
Location:Shanghai, China
Colocated with SOSP 2017, the first SOSP in the Asia-Pacific region, Ada Workshop provides a forum for female and minority students at the graduate and advanced undergraduate levels who have interests in computer systems research. The workshop program will include keynote talks, panel sessions, and interactive events offered and organized by leading researchers in academia and industry, covering topics about system research and general career development tips. The overall goal of the workshop is to strengthen the pipeline of underrepresented systems students, providing them with advice and networking opportunities that they might not otherwise receive.

Title:Workshops at EuroSys 2018
Submission Deadline:2017-10-31
Dates:April, 23, 2018
Location:Porto, Portugal
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the EuroSys’18 conference. The purpose of workshops is to provide a forum for exchanging opinions, presenting ideas, and discussing preliminary results in an interactive atmosphere. All proposals will be judged on their merits and the best proposals will be accepted. Specifically, workshops that have been organized at previous iterations of Eurosys are not automatically accepted this year. For instance, we will take into account the success of previous events (in terms of attendance, submissions, etc.) in our deliberations.

Title:SOSP 2017 Reminders | SIGOPS Mark Weiser Award
The biennial ACM Symposium on Operating Systems Principles is the
world's premier forum for researchers, developers, programmers, and
teachers of computer systems technology. Academic and industrial
participants present research and experience papers that cover the
full range of theory and practice of computer systems software.

* Registration and Visa Reminder

Please remember that visas are needed for most non-Chinese nationals
to enter China. The application should be made to the Chinese
Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence, no later than four
weeks before your departure.

* Locations for SOSP 2019

We are in the process of identifying a location for SOSP 2019. Historically the "business meeting" at SOSP is used for SIGOPS members to pitch locations, often accompanied by a colorful slide presentation (5-10 minutes). This is followed by a straw vote. The SIGOPS officers make the final call. Please let us know asap if you plan to present such a pitch, or wish to discuss this, by sending an email to Robbert van Renesse ( with the subject line: “SOSP 2019 Proposal for Location”.

* Childcare Grant

We are happy to provide a limited number of childcare allowance to attendees that might incur additional childcare cost due to attending SOSP'17. Please send an email request to by September 5, 2017, describing how his/her SOSP travel may incur extra cost on child-care. The committee will notify the results via email by September 8, 2017.

* The 2017 SIGOPS Mark Weiser Award

The Mark Weiser Award was created in 2001 by ACM SIGOPS, to be given to an individual who has demonstrated creativity and innovation in operating systems research. The recipient must have begun his or her career no earlier than 20 years prior to nomination.

The award is named in honor of Mark Weiser, a computing visionary recognized for his research accomplishments during his career at Xerox PARC. ACM SIGOPS will present a $1000 prize to the recipient, in memory of Mark and his many contributions to SIGOPS and the operating systems community. The award will be given annually at SOSP and OSDI.

Nomination deadline is October 15 2017.

The SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE mailing list is intended to provide a low-volume channel that provides operating systems researchers and practitioners with information about upcoming events or other important announcements. In general, a message containing a group of such announcements will be sent about once per month with the subject line "SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE monthly posting". On rare occasions, announcements of particular interest or urgency will be sent out with a different subject line, starting with "SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE supplemental posting" (for readers who wish to use mail filtering programs.) Finally, this mailing list is made available for use by publicity chairs of SIGOPS-sponsored conferences and the SIGOPS officers.
