Title: Twentieth Annual ACM SIGACT-SIGOPS Symposium on 
          PRINCIPLES OF DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING (PODC)

Synopsis: 
  Research contributions on the theory, design, specification,
  implementation, or application of distributed systems are solicited.
  PODC 2001 differs from earlier PODCs in that we are actively seeking
  papers reporting on the implementation, analysis, evaluation, and
  deployment of real systems.


Title: 7th European Conference on Parallel Processing (Euro-Par 2001) 
Deadline:   January 29, 2001

Synopsis:
  The international Euro-Par conferences are held annually and are
  dedicated to the promotion and advancement of all aspects of
  parallel computing. The major themes can be divided into the broad
  categories of hardware, software, algorithms and applications for

Synopsis: 
  The SIGCOMM 2001 conference seeks papers describing significant
  research contributions to the field of computer and data
  communication networks. Authors are invited to submit full papers
  concerned with both theory and practice


Title: HOTOS-VII
Deadline: January 15, 2001
Conference: May 20-22, 2001

Synopsis:
  We solicite OS-related papers on hot or emerging areas such as
  disconnected and nomadic computing, tiny and ubiquitous computers,
  middleware services, safe extensibility, speculative caching or
  execution techniques, distributed storage management, high
  performance servers and networking, special-purpose and embedded
  systems, etc. Topics of interest also include the more classic OS
  areas such as distributed computing, virtual memory, networking,
  file systems, process management, performance evaluation, real-time
  systems and security.

features web sites that OS researchers and practitioners may find
useful. This list depends on contributions from members: if you know
of a site you think other members should know about, please nominate
it by following the instructions at

The site of the month is on holiday vacation and will return in
January (please submit!).

3. About the SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE mailing list

The SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE mailing list is intended to provide a low-volume
channel that provides operating systems researchers and practitioners
with information about upcoming events or other important
announcements. In general, a message containing a group of such
announcements will be sent about once per month with the subject line
"SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE monthly posting". On rare occasions, announcements of
particular interest or urgency will be sent out with a different
subject line, still starting with "SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE" (for readers who
wish to use mail filtering programs.)

(paste it!) in the body of the message:
