7-March-2000 SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE monthly posting Information about this mailing list (how to subscribe, how to unsubscribe, and how to submit requests for announcements) is appended to the end of this file. More information about SIGOPS can be found at the SIGOPS web page: http://www.acm.org/sigops Announcements: -------------- Title: 9th ACM SIGOPS European Workshop Deadline: 27 March 2000 Conference: 17-20 September 2000 Web page: http://www.diku.dk/ew2000/ Synopsis: The 9th European Workshop will focus on the theme "Beyond the PC: New Challenges for the Operating System". Authors are encouraged to address the new OS challenges posed by the widespread use of "computers that don't look like computers", such as TV's, PDA's, mobile phones, appliances, etc. Title: Fourth Symposium on Operating Systems Design and Implementation Deadline: 25 April 2000 Conference: 23-25 October 2000 Web page: http://www.usenix.org/events/osdi2000/cfp.html Synopsis: The goal of the fourth OSDI is to present innovative, exciting work in the systems area. OSDI brings together professionals from academic and industrial backgrounds and has become a premiere forum for discussing the design, implementation, and implications of systems software. Title: OptiCom 2000 Optical Networking and Communications Conference Deadline: 30 May 2000 Conference: 22-26 October 2000 Web page: http://catss.utdallas.edu/opticom2000/ Synopsis: Emerging optical technologies, together with the rapid growth of the Internet, is fueling an increasing amount of research in the field of optical networks. A new optical network layer is evolving which focuses on providing advanced optical capabilities, such as optical reconfiguration, wavelength provisioning, and all-optical protection and restoration. New network protocols and architectures, in local, metropolitan, and long-haul environments, must be developed in order to fully utilize this emerging optical layer, and to create an efficient optical network that may provide a wide variety of services to end users. This conference provides a forum for researchers and developers from universities and industry to openly exchange information and to discuss the technical and commercial development of optical network technologies, architectures, protocols, and applications. About the SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE mailing list -------------------------------------- The SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE mailing list is intended to provide a low-volume channel that provides operating systems researchers and practitioners with information about upcoming events or other important announcements. In general, a message containing a group of such announcements will be sent about once per month with the subject line "SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE monthly posting". On rare occasions, announcements of particular interest or urgency will be sent out with a different subject line, still starting with "SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE" (for readers who wish to use mail filtering programs.) To subscribe, send mail to LISTSERV@ACM.ORG with the following command (paste it!) in the body of the message: SUBSCRIBE SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE To unsubscribe, send mail to LISTSERV@ACM.ORG with the following command in the body of the message: UNSUBSCRIBE SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE To get more information about manipulating your subscription to this list, go to http://www.acm.org/infodir/services/listserv/homepage.html To contact the owner of the list or to report a problem with the list, email SIGOPS-ANNOUNCE-request@ACM.ORG To request that an announcement be included in these mailings, email infodir_SIGOPS@acm.org or e-mail Mike Dahlin .
