This page is intended to give you some hints which might be useful in making your travel arrangements. You should of course check the details with your own travel agent or carrier.
The Renvyle House Hotel is located on the Renvyle Peninsula, a scenic 1.5 hour drive from Galway City on the west coast of Ireland.
Information is available about:
Ireland is well served by (direct) flights from many European and North American cities as well as many locations in the United Kingdom. Flights are operated by airlines including Aer Lingus, Air Inter Europe, Alitalia, British Airways, British Midland, Delta Air Lines, Iberia, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Sabena, SAS, TAP Air Portugal, and Virgin CityJet.
Most flights arrive in Dublin. Some flights from North America arrive in Shannon on the west coast. Other airports in the vicinity of Renvyle are Galway and Knock.
We expect that most participants will arrive in either Dublin or Shannon.
Aer Lingus operates flights from New York, Boston, and Chicago to both Dublin and Shannon, typically arriving early morning.
Delta Air Lines flies from Atlanta to both Dublin and Shannon.
Dublin airport is about 5 miles form the city centre. The easiest way to get to the centre is by Taxi and should cost around IRP10.
Dublin Bus also runs the "Airlink" express bus service from the airport to Bus Aras (Dublin's central bus station) and Heuston train station (from where trains to Galway depart). Note that not all buses go to Heuston. Airlink buses depart about 3-4 times per hour during the day.
Shannon airport is about 10 miles from Limerick City. Again the easiest way of getting to Limerick is by Taxi and should cost around IRP15.
Airport buses to Limerick run every 30 minutes in the morning, hourly in the afternoon and "irregularly" after 6.00pm.
If you're coming from the United Kingdom or continental Europe and planning to stay a while in Ireland, you might consider bringing your car.

By far the most flexible way of getting to Renvyle is by car. Note however that we drive on the left!
It should take no more than 3 hours to drive from Dublin to Galway and no more than 1.5 hours to drive from Shannon to Galway.
From Galway take the N59 road towards Clifden. You'll pass through Oughterard and Maam Cross before arriving at Recess.
After leaving Recess, turn right on to the R344 (you should see a signpost for the Renvyle House Hotel). Stay on the R344 until it rejoins the N59. Again, head towards Clifden. You'll soon pass the famous Kylemore Abbey before arriving at Letterfrack where you should turn off the N59 for Renvyle. You'll pass through the villages of Tully Cross and Tully before arriving at the hotel.
Depending on how often you stop to admire the scenery (and how many sheep you find on the road), the drive from Galway to Renvyle should take about 1.5 hours.
If there is sufficient interest, shuttle buses between the workshop venue and Dublin, Galway, and/or Shannon may be arranged.
We may organise one shuttle from Dublin to Renvyle which would probably leave Dublin around lunchtime on Sunday the 8th in order to arrive in Renvyle in time for Dinner - its a 3 hour drive to Galway with a further 1.5 hours to Renvyle.
This bus would return to Dublin after lunch on Wednesday the 11th, arriving in Dublin in the early evening.
While you should be able to fly into Dublin in time to meet the bus on Sunday, you are unlikely to be able to catch a flight out of Dublin on Wednesday evening having travelled by bus from Renvyle. Of course, you might want to stay over in Dublin on Saturday night too.
We may also organise a single shuttle from Shannon to Renvyle on Sunday the 8th. Since most flights from the US arrive early in Shannon, this bus would probably leave Shannon mid-morning to arrive in Renvyle during the afternoon - its 1.5 hours from Shannon to Galway and a further 1.5 hours to Renvyle.
This shuttle would return to Shannon after lunch on Wednesday the 11th and should arrive in Shannon on time to catch flights to the US.
Renvyle is a remote location and the availability of public transportation is consequently limited. Depending on whether you're coming from Dublin or Shannon a combination of train and bus will get you pretty close!
From Dublin to Galway: You can catch a train to Galway from Dublin's Heuston Station. Scheduled journey times vary, see the timetable for details.
From Shannon to Galway: Taking a train from Shannon to Galway isn't really practical. Bus Eireann runs buses from Limerick City (occasionally via Shannon) to Galway. See here for information on travelling from Shannon Airport to Limerick and here for the Limerick/Galway bus timetable.
From Galway to Renvyle: Although no buses run from Galway to Renvyle, there is a bus service between Galway and Letterfrack (which is quite close to Renvyle) and occasionally Tully (which is even closer). The service is, at best, infrequent.
To summarise, if you're thinking of using public transportation, hire a car!
