SIGOPS will continue to work to maximize inclusive participation at our sponsored events. The SIGOPS board shares the concern about the EO and endorses the statement made by its parent organization, ACM. We note that the ban not only affects scientists entering the USA to attend conferences held in the USA, but also scientists leaving the USA at conferences held elsewhere for fear of not being able to return. To maximize inclusive participation while the ban is in place, SIGOPS will provide additional sponsorship to SIGOPS-sponsored conferences and workshops that want to support live video streaming of talks to affected scientists, the ability for affected scientists to present remotely over a video connection, and the ability for affected scientists to ask a speaker questions in real-time from remote locations. SIGOPS will also continue to take the difficulty of acquiring travel documents into account when deciding on locations for conferences and workshops.
