Passing of Fernando Corbató

It is with great sadness that we write about the passing of Fernando Corbató, a Turing Award Laureate and the builder of the initial version of CTSS operating system. Fernando won the Turing Award in 1990 “for his pioneering work organizing the concepts and leading the development of the general-purpose, large-scale, time-sharing and resource-sharing computer systems, CTSS and Multics”. He passed away on July 12th at the age of 93. He will be greatly missed by the SIGOPS community.
